Description
The CTS MK6 2.0T Direct Fit FMIC Kit is designed as a direct replacement for the OEM front-mounted intercooler (FMIC). This means that you can install this kit without any adjustment or modification to the bumper. The OEM FMIC is sufficient for stock boost levels, but once boost levels are increased through ECU upgrades or chip tuning, the OEM FMIC struggles to control the supply air temperature. Higher supply air temperatures can lead to boost cut and timing pull, which reduces your vehicle's power.
The CTS direct fit FMIC uses an efficient bar-and-plate intercooler core that helps reduce pressure drops. A lower pressure drop means your turbo doesn't have to work as hard to make a given level of boost. If your turbo is making 30psi of boost pressure in the turbocharger, and your intercooler has a pressure drop of 10psi, then the boost measured by your ECU would be (30psi – 10psi) = 20psi. With an efficient FMIC like the CTS direct fit FMIC, your turbo doesn't have to work as hard to achieve the desired boost levels. This is beneficial in two ways: the life expectancy of the turbo is increased through more efficient operation, and the boost leaving the turbo is cooler and denser, resulting in more power to the ground.
